"Social networking seems to have taken over our lives! Almost everyone is on Facebook and Twitter. But is this a good thing?"
Social networking has become a way of life for most people. It is something that most of us do at least once a day. There are both advantages and disadvantages of social networking. Networking has a great advantage of allowing you to stay in touch with friends and family that you may not be able to see or be in direct contact with as much as you would like. The disadvantage of that, is that it is a very public service. People need to be cautious of what they are posting, with out the proper setting it is out there for all eyes to see. As a society as a whole I think social networking has had more of a negative effect. Communicating with others I feel is now more common using networking (ie: facebook, twitter, email, or text messaging) rather then sitting down and making time for a face to face conversation. Communicating has become very impersonal. Businesses are using social networking to advertise their sales and specials, to advertise their business name and what they are about in general, to better get their name out there, as well as to reach out to other businesses they may be able to work directly with. I think social networking will evolve much more within the upcoming years. Look back just two years ago the most common social networking website was Myspace. Since that time Facebook has been a big advancement to Myspace as well as Twitter. I think as the years continue more people will become more efficient users, as well as expressing more interest in the service of social media and it will continue to boom!
Very nicely written post Desiree! I agree communicating has become impersonal because of the advent of social networking. Good comparison of MySpace vs. Facebook!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the following of friends and relatives. I have a couple friends that have moved away for jobs and i can still be in their lives because of Facebook. That is a good point about conversations becoming impersonal because of these social networks; we get so wrapped up in them, that it just becomes a way of life. Facebook and Twitter became a big part of our society, so alot of people do not view them as impersonal. When you ask someone today if they have Facebook and they so no; its like a wave of shock comes over you. You ask yourself,"How can someone not have Facebook?"
ReplyDeleteI agree with Desiree. Many of us now a days only communicate with people through a social network or texting. We never really anymore actually sit down and have a face to face conversation with someone. Social networking has had such a negative affect on todays society and its only going to get worse as time goes on.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% Brittany! If you really stop and take a look at how many people actually sit down and have a conversation or even a phone call there are very little. It has definetly decreased over the past few years, it's a little scary to think what the future has in store.
